Carboneras is a beautiful coastal town. It is beside Cabo de gata’s Nature Park which is one of the best in Almería. Carboneras has also the “Playa de los muertos” which is one of the famous beaches in all of Spain.

Situated in the southeast of the Province of Almeria (Andalucía) in southern Spain and on the Mediterranean coast, Carboneras is one of the larger municipalities in the province (Levante region), with approx. 8,000 inhabitants. It is famous for its fishing tradition, the Moors and Christians festivals, and stunning natural environment.

Whist it is popular, it is not overly touristed and the area is perfect for family holidays with safe beaches and lots of activities for both adults and children.
There are over 30 restaurants in the town mainly specialising in the locally caught fish.

The typical gastronomic menu in this area consists of dishes such as the Carboneras prawn, which has an intense flavour and a species of razor fish (galanes) that is not found anywhere else.

Perhaps the greatest draw for visitors is the incredibly straight beach of Playa de los Muertos. It is over a kilometre in length, with a sapphire blue sea.
Carboneras offers numerous water sports, and is well known for scuba diving, sailing and fishing.

Most of the beaches and waters in the Cabo de Gata offer fantastic snorkelling. There are underwater rock formations just next to Los Escullos beach as well as caves which are particularly stunning.

For walkers there are wonderful walks in the close by Cabo de Gata protected natural park. Including, the Salinas beach which stretches from the Tower of San Miguel to the Cape with its historic lighthouse.
