Oggiona con Santo Stefano (Ugiòna cun Sastéven in Varese dialect) is an Italian town of about 4300 inhabitants in the province of Varese in Lombardy. The first traces of human presence in Oggiona with Santo Stefano date back to the Bronze Age, as evidenced by the blade of a dagger kept in the Gallarate museum. On the other hand, a bronze coin and a Capuchin tomb, the latter preserved in the Town Hall, date back to Roman and late Roman times. A ridge path along the left bank of the Arno passed through Oggiona con Santo Stefano. The remains of a high medieval road control tower, incorporated into the rear structure of the church of Santa Maria Annunciata al Castello, testify to the importance of Oggiona before the year 1000. The municipality is divided between the two centers of Oggiona and Santo Stefano Arno, located respectively on the right and left banks of the Riale stream, a tributary of the Arnetta. The hamlet of Santo Stefano is divided into four districts: Borani, Ruarit, Cantone and Bisciuina; the hamlet of Oggiona is divided into two districts: Castellani and Campo Grande.
