Property Details

A beautiful 1950 one bedroom cottage on one acre, in good condition, at the end of a country lane, in peaceful rural setting. it is 5 minutes’ drive from Ballindine village, 15 minutes from train, 40 minutes from Airport, and 10 minutes from motorway. The site has potential for another house, so the buyer is getting 3 buildings for the price of one. The property is ripe for development as holiday home, organic gardening, country retreat, living with nature, etc. Potential is only limited by the Buyer’s imagination. The asking price is elevated to reflect the potential, but in reality, this property is already priceless.

The property has to be seen to be appreciated.

About the Area

Ballindine is a village in County Mayo, ireland. it is located along the Western Railway Corridor, 6.5 km south of Claremorris. The N17 road passes through the village, carrying over 10,000 vehicles daily, and it connects to the R328 road on the south side of town.

Ballindine is situated on the N17 just across the Galway border between Milltown and Claremorris (4 mls). it is believed that Ballindine got its name from the irish ‘Baile an Daingin’ meaning ‘town of the fortress’.

The remains of a possible fort are located in a field close to Ballindine National School and a souterrain, just outside it, was connected underground to the ruins of the old church in Cloonmore 2 km to the east and to the ruins of the old church in Garryduff, 5 km west.

Great local effort goes into keeping Ballindine tidy and pleasing to the eye, with tall trees lining both sides of the main road, surrounded by neat and colourful, well-kept flower beds.

Modern Sculpture

A piece of modern sculpture, approx 30ft high, dominates the skyline along the main N17 road out of Ballindine towards Galway.

This colourful steel structure, based on the shape of an accordion, was designed by Ballintubber based sculptor, Cathal McCarthy, who was commissioned in 2002 by Mayo County Council and the DDA.

‘The Player’ commemorates the life and work of musician Martin O’Donohue, who founded the Disabled Drivers Association and was a renowned musician and music teacher in the Ballindine area.

Ballindine Amenities

Amenities and services in Ballindine include 3 shops, 3 pubs, pharmacy, 2 petrol stations, health centre, restaurant, fast-food outlet, bookies, a factory, community centre, church, a new school and a football pitch.

Ballindine is the headquarters of the Disabled Drivers Association of ireland and is also the location of the Alzheimer’s Respite Centre/Marian House.

Close to the village you find the River Robe (brown trout) and the famous Castlemagarret, which is closely linked to the history of Ballindine.

Hotel accommodation (in Claremorris) and local B&B’s are available which makes Ballindine a convenient base for further excursions into this part of beautiful Mayo.

Ballindine offers peace and tranquility for the city weary visitor. A handful of pubs with good cuisine and live music give you a taste of irish tradition at its best.

ireland West Airport Knock is just 20 mins drive and the vibrant city of Galway is 40 miles north of Ballindine on the N17. Bus services are in operation connecting Ballindine with major towns and cities in this part of ireland.
