Where is Peyia? How many people live there?

Peyia is a community of about 10,000 people, about 15 km from the centre of the town of Paphos. It is a thriving community with mainly wealthy residents, most of them being middle class or upper class British, Scandinavian and German expats.

While in the past farming and livestock management was the main occupation in Peyia, these days tourism is the biggest employment generator. This beautiful suburb of Paphos gets many visitors from across Europe and the rest of the world.

Not far from Peyia is a site where many archaeological artefacts from the Copper Age were found. This place has an ancient history that goes back to the Venetian Era. It was then nothing more than a village of shepherds. Peyia was discovered by real estate developers in the 1990s and was developed into a posh neighbourhood. It was upgraded into a municipality in 1994.

Things to do and see in Peyia

Peyia right on the Coral Bay, one of the longest coastlines in Cyprus, which is a major tourist attraction. There are a plenty of fun things to do in this town. There are many shops and boutiques and the markets are always packed with tourists.

The weather is perfect all through the year โ€“ this is the Mediterranean, after all. The food is great and the people are lovely. There are many excellent bars, restaurants and coffee shops in this town.

There are so many things to do here. You could, for example, go walking through along the Coral Bay, towards the Turtle Bay. You can go horse riding along the roads that lead to the Sea Caves.

You can also go quad biking if you like. This is a popular activity in this part of the world. Jeep safaris are fun as well. There is nothing quite like driving through the hills and valleys.

Not far from Peyia are ancient monasteries and mosaics which are worth exploring. The Paphos Harbour is a must visit as well. Thereโ€™s a zoo at a short distance from Peyia, and a golf course too!

Also, there are a plenty of water sports that you can participate in around here, such as parasailing, scuba diving, snorkelling, jet skiing and power boating.

What about the property market in Peyia?

There is actually a lot of interest in properties in Peyia, not just from the usual crowd of British and Scandinavian expats, but also from wealthy Chinese, Russian, Brazilian and Middle Eastern buyers.

They are attracted by the Golden Visa scheme of the Cyprus government, which promises residence permits and a European passport to anyone who buys properties worth 300,000 Euros here.

So properties in Peyia are selling for good money. A three-bedroom villa with private pool, for example, can easily fetch around 400,000 Euros.
