Spain’s beaches are some of the best in the world

Thinking of buying or selling a frontline beach property in Spain? Here we look at why investors are drawn to these areas. Not only do they provide guaranteed rentals but simply put the areas are stunning, Spains Blue Flag beach reign remains unchallenged, as Spain continues to dominate the global beach market with the most of them. In 2022, 17 of these pristine beaches will receive the worldwide seal of approval; here are a few that we think you’ll like.

As of 2022, Spain’s beaches have been given a record 621 Blue Flags, making it the country’s 29th consecutive year at the top of the coveted standings. Greece comes in second with 581, while Turkey is close behind with 531. There are 80 in England, 53 in Wales, and 48 in Scotland.

Blue Flags are awarded to the greatest beaches in 53 different nations for meeting stringent criteria for things like cleanliness, services, water quality, and more. Spain has been granted a total of 729 Blue Flags, an increase of 23 over the previous year (2021) due to the fact that they are also given out to marinas and tourist vessels.

According to Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director of Taylor Wimpey Espaa, “travellers come from around the world to spend time on Spain’s beaches.” I was blown away by the quality and diversity on offer. We are thrilled to be delivering vacation homes near some of Spain’s Blue Flag beaches, which have expanded to include 15 percent of the world’s greatest beaches thanks to the country’s efforts this year.

The majority of the 17 new Blue Flags are located around the coasts, although there are also a few beaches in interior regions like the landlocked area of Extremadura.

The Valencian Community

The Valencian Community has more Blue Flag beaches than any other region in Spain, with a total of 139. This represents over a quarter of all such beaches in Spain. The province of Valencia with the biggest percentage is Alicante, which includes the Costa Blanca. Cala Baladrar is a prime example, being a secluded, pebbly cove nestled behind pine-clad cliffs in the affluent Benissa Costa neighbourhood to the south of the picturesque resort town of Moraira.

Moving up north toward Valencia city, you’ll reach the classic resort town of Ganda, known for its long, golden beaches. Ahuir, an undeveloped beach just north of town with a naturist section, is the most recent beach in the area to be awarded the Blue Flag. Cullera, a smaller resort town, is even closer to Valencia, and it’s a favourite with Spanish tourists because to its convenient proximity to the regional capital. The beaches of Escollera and Marenyet-L’Illa have both been awarded the coveted Blue Flag status. Escollera is a big, central beach, while Marenyet-L’Illa is located just five minutes to the south and is perfect for families.

Andalusia

That Andalusia is in second place, just behind the Valencian Community, is hardly a surprise. The provinces of Málaga, Almera, and Cádiz, which together contain the majority of the Costa del Sol, have earned a combined total of 122 Blue Flags.

Two beaches in Málaga just received their Blue Flags back. Playa de Sabinillas in San Luis de Sabinillas, Manilva, and Playa de Maro in Nerja, east of Málaga city, are two of the best beaches in the area.

Two other Blue Flag beaches may be found in eastern Andalusia, close to the border with Portugal. The first is the expansive Playa de los Haraganes on Ayamonte’s Isla Canela, a 1,700-hectare resort complex created on a partly protected island. Then there’s the neighbouring tourist hub of Isla Cristina, where the Playa la Casita Azul has become a badge-carrying member of the establishment’s exclusive club.

Canarian Island of Fuerteventura

Most of Fuerteventura consists of vast expanses of magnificent golden sand that slope down to a shimmering blue sea, and the island is widely considered to have some of the best beaches in Spain and all of Europe. Playa Castillo, located in Caleta de Fuste, a popular family resort located midway down the island’s east coast and about 10 minutes south of the airport, is the most recent beach to get a Blue Flag award.
