Algarve Portugal Property Market

Many international property Investors are drawn to Portugal’s southern coast by the region known as the Algarve for its 300 sunny days each year. Did you know, though, that the Algarve is home to forty of the top golf courses anywhere in the world?

The Algarve’s Golfing Past

The Algarve’s reputation as a top golfing destination can be traced back to the legendary golfer Sir Henry Cotton. Since he constructed the first 18-hole course on Portugal’s southern coast in 1966, he is sometimes referred to as the “grandfather of Algarve golf.”

Penina, written by Paul McCartney in 1968, was really named after the hotel where he stayed there.

Along the Algarve’s length of coast, around 150 miles long, Cotton also created a number of famous courses. There are now more than 40 golf courses in the Algarve, beginning in the west at Sagres and ending in the east at Quinta do Vale.

In the words of European Tour CEO Keith Pelley: “The Algarve continues to be a terrific backdrop for tournament golf, having hosted 35 tournaments since 2001.”

Where to start your search for an Algarve home

Golfers can choose from two different types of real estate: resort-based and off-resort. It’s totally up to you to decide. Having well groomed grass just outside your door makes resort living relaxing and picture perfect. Homes in golf communities typically include use of resort-style features including swimming pools, tennis courts, and spas. The resort provides 24-hour security and regular upkeep as an added convenience.

The residences in golf communities are conveniently located near the resort’s restaurants and bars. You won’t go hungry because there are always places to eat close by.

You may save money on a vacation home by purchasing one that is located near a well-known resort, since you will not have to pay for as many perks. You can locate some great places to build your ideal house, though, and they’re not all that far from the course. These homes often have a bit more seclusion than the average.

The Golden Triangle, which includes Vilamoura, Vale do Lobo, and Almancil, is where you’ll find the greatest courses.

Vilamoura

The Algarve’s Vilamoura is a posh tourist destination. It’s famous for its luxurious accommodations, hip eateries, spacious marina, and exciting casino.

The beaches in Vilamoura have all been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag, signifying that they are exceptionally well maintained and provide visitors with first-rate services.

Getting to Vilamoura from Faro Airport or Albufeira takes no more than 25 minutes by car.

Since Vilamoura is home to numerous courses that have hosted major championships, it is often considered to be the best place in the Algarve to buy a golf property.

The Vilamoura resort area is home to six tough golf courses. There are a total of 27 holes at the resort’s golf courses, which comprise the Victoria and Millennium courses as well as the Pinhal and Laguna courses.

Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo

The coastal resort of Vale do Lobo is a huge hit with both locals and visitors. It’s a state-of-the-art resort complete with stores, lodging, a clinic, and a spa.

One of the first resorts to be created after the decision to construct Faro Airport in 1962 was Vale do Lobo, located just outside of Faro.

Both of Vale do Lobo’s courses are 18 holes in length. Two courses, one royal and one oceanic. Sir Henry Cotton was responsible for the design of the second one. It takes less than five minutes to drive to other renowned courses. There are a total of 27 holes at Pinheiros Altos, as well as 18 at Quinta do Lago North and South and 9 at Quinta do Lago South.

The Sea, Moreover, It has been held in both Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lobo, both of which are also in the do Lobo family.

Lagos

Lagos is a great location to choose if you want to live away from the resort. It’s a fascinating historic centre that views out over the cliffs and beaches of the Algarve. The historic stronghold, mediaeval churches, and 14th-century walls all attest to the town’s illustrious past and present-day beauty.

The city’s maritime history and breathtaking beaches have earned it a worldwide reputation. Lagos is still part of Faro region, making it convenient to go to the area’s several golf courses. Lagos is located along the coast, one hour’s drive from Faro Airport.

Near Lagos, you may choose from three great courses. To the east is the Palmares Golf Course, which features 27 holes. Boavista Golf Course, an 18-hole facility located in the western outskirts of town, is easily reached by car. The 18-hole Espiche course is located to the north.

Lagos is a lovely city to call home, especially if your significant other isn’t a golf fan. This way, your spouse may enjoy urban amenities like the proximity to beaches and cultural attractions found in the city’s center, while you can relax on some of the greatest golf courses in the Algarve, knowing that they are only a short drive away.
