Dutch Buyers for Costa Del Sol

Because of its position, warm weather, and great food, the Costa del Sol (Málaga) real estate market is one of the most popular with people from other countries. Since this is the case, a lot more outsiders have been buying property in the area lately, especially Dutch people. According to Engel & Völkers, the Dutch are buying the most new homes on the Málaga coast as second homes.

It’s been two years, and the real estate agent says that the number of interested buyers from the Netherlands has doubled. This means that Belgian and British buyers are now in second and third place, respectively. Buyers from Poland, Sweden, Germany, and the Czech Republic aren’t in the top three. This shows how interested Europeans are in the Costa del Sol.

According to José Carlos Pérez, CEO of Magnum & Partners – Engel & Völkers, “sales of newly built second homes to Dutch people have already tripled compared to the whole of 2022.” He finds this “particularly positive,” but he assures us that it is a “post-pandemic effect.”

The Netherlands is interested in the Costa del Sol because of strong tax laws and the ability to work from home.

People can work from anywhere in the world thanks to the rise in online work since the pandemic. This means they can move to a place that is better for their health, like the coast of Málaga, which has a warmer temperature and a more laid-back way of life.

But why has the number of Dutch people grown so much more than in the rest of Europe? Engel & Völkers says that the rules on buying a second home in the Netherlands have become stricter when it comes to taxes. This is why people are choosing to spend their vacations in another European country, in this case Spain.

Pérez says that the Dutch want to “buy a second home on the Costa del Sol to enjoy for a few months and rent it out the rest of the time to make a profit” because these properties are meant to be second homes. You can invest and take vacations at the same time.

On the other hand, the beach, the weather, and the laid-back way of life are what draw people to the Costa del Sol. An house agent said that these three areas do best in the summer, when foreign buyers are most likely to be looking.

According to Engel & Völkers, sales of newly built second homes to Dutch citizens rose by 150% from June to August 2024 compared to the summer of 2023. This shows that people from Europe are interested in the Costa del Sol.

There are different places of the Costa del Sol that tourists want to visit more than others. Engel & Völkers says that owners from the Netherlands are choosing Costa del Sol, Torremolinos, and Mijas Costa.
