Andalucía is home to the provinces of Granada, Malaga, Cádiz, Cordoba, Sevilla, Huelva, Jaén, and Almeria. It is perhaps the most popular region in Spain with foreign visitors, and receives millions of tourists every year.
Andalucía is spread over 54,000 square miles of territory and is a great place to buy a holiday home or a retirement home. Most of the properties for sale in Andalucía cost between €125,000 and €250,000, which is pretty reasonable. You can buy bargain villas in Andalucía online through UK estate agents for between €105,000 and €125,000 as well, provided you know where to look.
It is one of the best places in the world to retire to. The cities of Seville, Malaga, Granada and Cordoba are delightful in every way possible. They are not as crowded as some of the other cities in Spain and have an open and diverse culture. There are a plenty of delightful beaches here as well.
The region has many fertile marshlands, thickly forested areas, semi-deserts and more. Andalucía has a perfect climate – it receives 320 days of sunshine and not more than 20 days of rain. It has a mild climate which is ideal for growing fruits and vegetables. Bananas, papayas, and mangoes are grown widely in the farmlands here.
Andalucía has a vast coastline of over 500 miles. The beaches here are quite marvellous and very popular with tourists from across the world. There are a plenty of opportunities for water sports here such as snorkelling, scuba diving, windsurfing, kayaking, and more.
Indeed, if you look hard enough, you will be able to see Africa from some of the spots on the Andalucían coastline – this region acts as a natural bridge between Europe and Africa.
What does Andalucía have to offer for retirees? For one it is the perfect Mediterranean retirement haven that you’ve probably been looking for. It is a very safe place with a low crime rate. The locals are friendly, open and warm hearted and the culture in Andalucía is rich, varied and interesting.
As one gentleman who has purchased a holiday home in the Andalucían town of Almuñécar said, “I chose Spain because it met my key criteria: accessibility, culture, a language I could manage to learn, a lower cost of living, and, most important, a lifestyle, people, and set of values that I’m comfortable with. The Costa Tropical, specifically Almuñécar, became my focused target for its wonderful climate and vegetation, the Mediterranean Sea, the culture of Granada, and the mountains.”
Andalucía is home to a large British expat community. Most of the locals here speak English very well, so communication isn’t a problem here.
Most of the shops and offices in Andalucía open at 10 am and have a long lunch break that stretches from 1 to 3 pm, followed by a siesta until 5 pm. Then, after a relaxed cup of coffee, the folks here head back to work, and close shop late at night.
The lifestyle here is as laid back and relaxed as it can get. There are a plenty of nice and cosy restaurants, coffee shops and bars in Andalucía, where you can relax after a busy day spent shopping or visiting museums. The food is great too, as is the wine.
